As warmer weather rolls around, we’re all excited to get rid
of heavy winter coats, clunky boots and hats, scarves, mittens that are so hard
to keep track of. Why not take it one
step further and put your home through the spring filter as well? So many things weigh us down and cause stress
– it’s important to realize what they are and take the time to decide what’s
worth it and what isn’t. Something that
can definitely help is going through your stuff to figure out what you should keep
and what can go. This is a great exercise
to prepare you to tackle those tougher problems :)

Closets: If you haven’t used it in two years, and you haven’t
seen it in six months – toss it.
Physically getting rid of things is the hardest part. Once they’re gone you probably won’t give it
much more thought. Everyone likes to
sort their clothes according to their own dressing habits, but if you’re looking
for a pretty new way to display, colour-coding always works!

| Small, organized desk |
Organize: shelves, desks, consoles, table tops all get piled
on. Take the time to go through the
piles, pick out what’s important, throw the garbage out and organize the
rest. This is a tedious task, especially
in the office, but if you do this once and properly organize the leftovers, it
will be the last time. Get stackable
paper files, filing folders or an accordion file for bills and important
documents, and decorative bowls and baskets for smaller objects. Lots of small objects placed together can
look very messy, but this instantly changes when you add a tray under them or
place them in bowl.

Furniture: if you have a chair that wobbles or a table that’s
crooked – fix it! Instead of buying a
new one, do what you can to fix the piece if you like it. Unfortunately, some pieces are past their expiry
date and if this is the case it’s best to move on as quickly as possible.
Similarly, if you’re looking for a way to spruce up your sofa, a slip cover or
new set of pillows can do the job on a budget.
And keep in mind that a coat of paint can go a long way!
